What is Ask Unc? Ask Unc is a plug guide for the Bay Area and beyond — a shared board of real local references: the cook, the counter person who actually helps, the mechanic who will tell you no. Every ref is cross-read against Yelp, Reddit, Google, and the viral clip, so a million views can't outvote the room. Is Ask Unc just for the Bay Area? We're starting in the Bay Area — Oakland, San Francisco, San Jose, Fremont, Berkeley, Hayward and the rest of the East Bay, South Bay and Peninsula. Go to Drop, enter who they are, the spot, the city, and the one line that explains why they hold. Your drop goes on the shared board for everyone right away as a Fresh ref. What is a receipt? A receipt is a real link to the source — a Yelp page, a Reddit thread, a Google Maps listing, or an Instagram / TikTok / YouTube clip. Ask Unc checks the link actually points at that site. Four receipts means the cross is complete. What do Fresh, Hitter, Unc, and Legend mean? They're ranks based on heat. Heat comes mostly from receipts (25 each), plus hearts and vouches from the community, which are capped so a pile-on can't buy a Legend without receipts. Anyone can be an Unc. What's a clip trap? A spot that's hot on social video but the room — Yelp, Reddit, Google — doesn't back it. Ask Unc flags those loud and points you to who the locals actually send people to. What does Ask Unc do when it doesn't know? It tells you straight. Ask Unc only answers from refs on the board and never invents a business. If nobody's been dropped for what you asked, it asks you to drop one. What are the Example refs? The Example cards are composite characters that show how a complete cross reads. Community refs are the real drops from people using the board. Do I need an account? No. Your hearts, rep, and taste settings stay on your device. Drops, receipts, hearts and vouches are shared with everyone anonymously. Can I install Ask Unc like an app? Yes. Tap Install in the menu.
